Daily Meals 2012-09-20

10

This is my first post about my daily meals and I want to explain something. At this moment I like to eat 2-3 times per day big meals because they keep me full for long time. There were times I ate 4 or 5 or 6 smaller meals and it also was good nutrition for the time I did it. I think the most important thing is the quality of the food and next the quantity, not how many times per day you eat.

After you clean your meals eating only good, simple, not processed food, then you have to find how many times to eat per day and what amount of food. Every person is different and the quantity of my food may not work for you, so I will post just meals, not quantities.

I started the day with a black coffee and then a late breakfast which I mix with a lunch in a brunch ๐Ÿ™‚ .

scrambled eggs tomato parsley mozzarella

3 scrambled eggs with tomato, parsley and smoked mozzarella. I didn’t feel full enough and add a bowl with grapes.

I like to work in coffee shops and had a black cat latte.

Recently I like to sit a table next to a poster with a black cat that so much alike with Nomi (our Black cat, she is in the eternity catsโ€™ fields now).

While I cooked the dinner I ate a bowl of plums.

plums

I was hungry and ate all of them, which spoiled a little bit my dinner, I mean that I couldn’t finish my salmon.

grilled salmon

I cooked veggie stew โ€“ green beans, broccoli, okra, carrots, spinach, onion, garlic, fenugreek, very small amount of salt.

I started to limit salt recently.

I put some potatoes around the salmon so they cooked together.

cooling salmon and potatoes

I buy whole potatoes, peel and slice them. I don’t buy any food that can be processed in any way. As whole as possible!

So these are my meals for today.

Question of the day

What did you eat today?

    Hi Rumi,
I go to work and I workout right after, so I like to eat food that gives me real energy. I always start my day with oat bran, and I sometimes add barley flakes, flex seed, cinnamon, coconut or honey. Today, I’ll eat my oat meal with Aronia (chokeberry) and peach slices. I used to eat oat meal with low fat milk, but now I eat it with low fat yogurt.
While I am at work I also eat a cucumber, carrot and three olives. This is a snack I prepare at home. Just before I leave work, I eat another piece of fruit and some chickpeas.
After my workout I will eat white beans and a bowl of cabbage. I live with my parents and my mother cooks lunch usually, so the white beans will be cooked with some oil, red pepper and onions, but I advice her to use as little oil as possible. I don’t put anything in my cabbage salad because of the spices my mother uses in meals.
Before I go out, I will probably eat all the time :)) I also like to eat clean, so I’ll probably eat boiled pumpkin, grapes, almonds, peanuts, integral rise, boiled egg, or low fat cottage cheese. I also drink green tea, earl gray tea and Turkish coffee.
I know I eat a lot, but I just feel awful if my energy is low. So, instead of being hungry all the time and nervous, I decided to eat clean ๐Ÿ™‚
I follow you for a long time, and you were my inspiration to start eating real food. Thank you for all your advice ๐Ÿ™‚

Katerina, wow wow what a nice list of clean foods ๐Ÿ™‚ You and I have common taste of foods, I love all your choices. I know what you mean about being nervous because of hunger, I don’t like it too, that’s why I eat until full. May be you know this, but to point it for other readers, it is better to cook with saturated fat/oils (butter, coconut) and to add to salads unsaturated fats (olive, flax). And now is the pumpkin season in Bulgaria, expect pumpkin recipes ๐Ÿ™‚

I LOVE pumpkin ๐Ÿ™‚ I made pancakes with whole grain wheat flour a week ago, inspired by one of your recipes, so I can’t wait to see your ideas for pumpkin ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t have a lot of experience in cooking, but I know that if I am motivated enough, I’ll do it ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you Rumi for this great food article. I can see that you don’t any bread nor diary ( yogurt, cheese). So, you better suggest not having any of bread and diary? I am asking cause i love bread and diary. It’s like a drug. I know It’s full of fat ๐Ÿ™ i should give a try!!! Also, Rumi how many times a week or a month do you give you a treat? Do you have a “cheat meal” ? If so, what do you recommend the following meal to compensate the “cheat ” one? Thank you!! Have a lovely weekend ๐Ÿ˜‰

Romy, actually there is Mozzarella (cheese) in the eggs. I eat diary too. I stopped bread during the summer because I ate lots of fruit and I need to compensate with limiting another carb. You can eat everything but you need to have balance. In my opinion fat in food is not bad; on the contrary it is good. But fat that naturally exists in the food like – eggs, fish, meat, cheese, nuts. The added fat is what we don’t need. I think the same about carbs and protein. I eat food in the form it exist naturally without adding anything else. From time to time I may add a teaspoon butter or coconut butter to eggs to make them with more flavor, or a spoon of olive oil to the salad – these are cases I add oil to the food. I don’t have cheat days, treats or things like that. I eat very clean and if I need a treat, I make it myself at home, no sugar (I use dry fruit to make sweets). But in the past I had cravings for chocolate, and I had a rule – nothing is forbidden, if I want to eat something, I can eat it. This philosophy decreases cravings because I know I can have a treat if I really want.
